Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron - Review - Why Is Battlefront Elite Squadron The Biggest Battlefront Ever?

The wildly popular Star Wars legacy continues with bringing the Galaxy far far away right into our homes and into handheld video games with the newest Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.

The narration spans across the period where the Clone Wars are destroying the Galactic Republic, and the few Jedis who have survived the massacre are now starting a rebellion. With its single-player gameplay, players take on the role of X2, an elite clone trooper genetically reproduced from the DNA of a Jedi Master, making him more sensitive to the Force. He, along with his brother X2, was trained to be an expert in combat and became the best among his kind, even taking on becoming a trainer himself.

He originally began as a hunter and assassin to the surviving Jedis, but decided to turn away from the “dark side” and join the Jedi in their cause. But his brother was becoming more immersed in the dark side, leading to a sibling face-off which can ultimately change the course of history.

As a player, you can go through the game using different modes of transportation, from tanks, to starships, and even running on foot. With the PSP version of the Elite Squadron, you are given the free reign to customize their characters with wider options. You can choose which weapons to carry, what armor to wear, or the physical strengths they want boosted. You will also have the chance to unlock other items to help them throughout the entire game.

On the DS version, however, the characters are class-based, which means each characters are preset with their own weapons, depending on their rank. But a good thing about the DS version is that you can switch between weapons in an instant. After you have reached a certain score, you can upgrade and add to your inventory of weapons. You will even be given medals. And if you rack up enough points, you can have the opportunity to play as a different character featured on the Star Wars movie. You can select from Obi-wan, Yoda, or even the wailing Chewbacca. This feature makes it even more interesting and widens the plot for the game.

Throughout the game, you will be sure to pass through many checkpoints, keeping you pumped up with action. You will go through 11 different levels that gives you different sorts of mission in order to advance through another level. The one complaint about the DS version is that you can’t pass through the levels randomly, even after you’ve finished them. But considering the difference from the PSP device, the criticism can be bypassed.

Aside from the single-player gameplay, the Elite Squadron boasts of its multiplayer modes, which can have room for up to 16 players in the PSP version. You can choose from being a Rebel, a clone trooper, or a robot. An added bonus in this mode is that you can explore other areas that are outside your specific area. For example, you can go do battle on land even if you picked to be a pilot.

Although the DS version only has a 4-player capacity, the “Heroes and Villains” mode, among other exciting modes, more than makes up for it. You and your friends can have a go at skirmishes and become your favorite character, from Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul, or even Darth Vader.

Overall, the Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron makes for awesome addition to the Star Wars franchise. For fans and first-time players alike, the Elite Squadron will give you a different angle on the Star Wars story.
